Hi Hans,

Why the need for an additional ProductStore?

Thanks
Scott

Hi Scott,

if you look at the reports they are pretty complicated. We got test data
from the customer and converted it to ofbiz demo data. Adding this data
to an existing productStore would have changed the test data so we
decided to create a separated productstore for this.

Hans

Hi Hans,

Thanks for the explanation, but are saying that you didn't use the existing ProductStore because it would have been difficult for you and your client?  Demo data is for demonstration purposes and IMO if the additional ProductStores are not demonstrating some different/new functionality other than reports then we shouldn't be creating a whole new set of demo data for the community to maintain unnecessarily.

Scott

Hi Hans,

the goal of the existing product store (and demo data in general) is to provide a basis for demonstrating available features. Demo data are also used as a basis for automated tests.
This is why we should consider demo data a very important part of the project, at the same level of code: we should take care of it and spend time to keep it clear, in a similar way we do with services.
But this takes time and so we should keep demo data as small as possible by avoiding duplicated information.
If there are specific settings in the product store that are mandatory for the reports to work properly, then we should discuss this and see if we can modify the settings of the official product store. If this is not possible (but I would be surprised of this) we should probably add a new product store with minimal data setup just to demonstrate the reports.
If you simply don't have time to do this now, my preference would be to keep the demo data for the reports into a separate file attached to a Jira issue.

Kind regards,

Jacopo

This conversation seems to have died without coming to a conclusion, did you have any thoughts to share Hans?

Thanks

Scott,

Because i do not really have an answer on this. Simply add them to a
jira issue is not much help. They are an essential part of the reports
for demonstration.

These reports are only interesting for the larger customer sites we
support. Without demo data they are pretty useless. Looking at he
existing orderdemo data there is actually not much there, i count
4 orders. We could add the saleschannels and orders of the new to the
existing productstores. I only wonder what would get better than?

Now it also shows that the orderlist in order manager has no paging?

Regards,
Hans

Well Hans, the problem as I see it is that you've added a whole stack of new demo data and I'm yet to understand what new features we're able to demonstrate.  Half of the Order Manager reports based on BIRT display no information whatsoever when the reports are run.  The additional demo data hides features from new users because they aren't able to discern the good stuff from the junk.

The reason there are so few order is because we aren't really able to demonstrate additional features using order data.  I have no problem with additional order data being added to the existing product store or even adding an additional product store but what I don't like is additional redundant data such as the B2C store which is already adequately represented by the eCommerce product store.

Regards
Scott
